How to Organize Your Makeup Bag

Melt-Proof Your Makeup

The heat is on and that means your makeup is probably melting right into your mojito. To keep your liner, foundation, and bronzer in place, find out my tips on WCAU-TV to keep you looking pretty even through a heatwave.
Opt for Oil-Free
Choose a moisturizer that’s oil-free and lightweight to hydrate skin without causing slipping and sliding. Also, look for one with an SPF because that prevents oil glands from enlarging and causing skin to look even slicker.
Try: Neocutis Bio-Restorative Day Cream SPF 30 makes sun protection simple and easy by combining the most effective anti-aging ingredients (growth factors, the Cadillac of peptides), antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid with SPF 30 in a fragrance-free, weightless formula. Its formula is tinted with melanin, so it blends into your skin and won’t run off or stain your clothes. The small size is also great for travel. $75 at neocutis.com.
Take time to Prime
A primer may seem like a second step, but they work like double-stick tape and keep your makeup in place all day long. Primers are now available in special formulas like a tinted formula or a primer just for your lids to help lock in shadow. Only apply a pea-sized drop – don’t overdo it.
Try: NP Set Eye Primer which helps shadow stay put. $15 at Target. CoverGirl & Olay Simple Ageless Serum Primer to help firm and smooth skin and keep makeup in place. $14 at drugstores.
Forget the Foundation
Just like switching your wardrobe, you should stash your foundation. Instead, try a bronzer to help even out skin and hide imperfections. Look for a waterproof formula that holds up to sweat, sun, and surf.
Try: Too Faced Aqua Bunny Bronzer gives you a natural glow and won’t fade throughout the day. $28 at Sephora.
Color With CreamSwitch to cream shadows and blush, which are not only sheerer and softer looking for summer, but also don’t run and fade like powder formulas or cake when combined with sweat. New longwear, waterproof formulas contain silicone that creates a water-resistant barrier to lock color in place and almost create a barrier between skin and makeup.
Try: Makeup Forever Aqua Cream a creamy shadow that won’t crease or smudge – available in fun summer shades like turquoise and peach. $22 at Sephora.
Lock in Lip Gloss
Gloss is a must to get the look of summer. But, gloss can easily smear. To help it stay, line your lips with a lip liner. These contain waxes to help keep your lip gloss in place. Line and fill in lips completely – then top with gloss. Bonus, pencils create a more stained effect, so lips won’t look too heavy.
Try: Estée Lauder Double-Wear Stay-in-Place Lip Pencil prevents lip bleeding for 12 hours. $19 at esteelauder.com.
Line It RightMany women wear eye liner for definition, but pencil can run. Gels and liquids last longer – plus you can create a more natural (thinner) line.
Try: Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner comes in colors like denim ink and $22 at bobbibrowncosmetics.com.
Blot it
Instead of repowdering throughout the day—extra layers can cause cakey product buildup in warm weather—keep plasticky oil-blotting sheets at your desk and in your purse. Dabbed over your face, they soak up excess oil without messing up your makeup.
Try: Clean & Clear Oil-Absorbing Sheets changes colors so you know it’s working and won’t rub off your makeup. $6 at drugstores.
